Results from a study show that digital mammography is significantly better than standard film mammography in screening certain groups of women for breast cancer. The National Cancer Institute details the study in Digital vs. Film Mammography in the Digital Mammographic Imaging Screening Trial.

Lung Cancer Screening
New results from a large study suggest that using spiral computed tomography (CT) to screen people at increased risk for lung cancer can detect the disease at an early stage and may increase the number of people who can be cured. The National Cancer Institute discusses the study in Lung Cancer Screening Study Spurs Optimism, Caution.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening
An influential medical advisory group is recommending that all men ages 65 to 75 who have ever smoked have an ultrasound screening test to see if they are developing a condition that could kill them in minutes. Read the United States Preventive Services Task Force recommendations in Screening for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.

Early Breast Cancer Detection
The earlier breast cancer is found, the better the chances that treatment will work. The American Cancer Society recommends guidelines for finding breast cancer early in women without symptoms in Can Breast Cancer Be Found Early?
